According to Abraham Lincoln âthe best way to predict your future is to create itâ. However cliche that might sound, this advice rings true today, especially for the youths given the alarming rate of unemployment.
For many, this is a call for the youth to take up the challenge and create the future they desire, not just by looking for jobs, but by creating employment for others too. Given that the government and the private sector are in many cases not anymore able to provide adequate employment opportunities, therefore, youth entrepreneurship plays a vital role in economic growth.

A new impact report from the Anzisha Prize has revealed that young people’s inexperience is their greatest asset for being successful entrepreneurs who create jobs for their peers. The Anzisha Prize has worked with Africa’s youngest entrepreneurs for the last 10 years.

Seneca is partnering with Canadian post-secondary institutions with the support of the Mastercard Foundation and Colleges & Institutes Canada (CICan) to support the Young Africa Works in Kenya - Youth Employability Through Technical and Vocation Education and Training (TVET) program, which aims to create new work opportunities for young people in Kenya.
The Anzisha Prize (www.AnzishaPrize.org) launched the 2021 call for Africa’s biggest award for young entrepreneurs between, 15 and 22. Applications have now opened for the latest cohort, with successful entrepreneurs standing a chance to win a shared prize of US$100 000 and join the prestigious Anzisha Prize fellowship program. As the COVID-19 pandemic disrupts the world, young entrepreneurs are building opportunities for their communities and peers.
Last year the Anzisha Prize, a partnership between African Leadership Academy and Mastercard Foundation, celebrated 10 years of supporting Africa’s youngest entrepreneurs. To date, the 142 business owners in the program have created more than 2500 jobs.
