This according to a study in low- and middle-income countries coordinated by the WHO on the initiative of researchers at Karolinska Institutet published in The New England Journal of Medicine. Continuous skin-to-skin contact between infant and mother, or “Kangaroo Mother Care” (KMC), is one of the most effective ways to prevent infant mortality globally. The current recommendation from the World Health Organization (WHO) is that skin-to-skin contact should commence as soon as a low weight baby is sufficiently stable, which for those weighing under 2 kg at birth normally takes several days.

MOH inaugurates Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital Board

Kwaku Agyeman Manu, Minister of Health poses with the Board Members Mr Kwaku Agyeman Manu, Minister of Health (MOH), on Wednesday inaugurated a nine-member governing Board of Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital. The members of the board are: Ambassador Nana Effah-Apenteng, who has experience in Management and Administration, is the Chairman of the New Board, Mr Maxwell Opoku Agyeman, a lawyer, Dr Caroline Reindorf Amissah, a Medical Practitioner. Others are; Dr William Kwadwo Antwi, Allied Health Professional, Mr Charles Dontoh, a Pharmacist, Mrs Hannah Okyere Boateng, a Midwife. The two representatives of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology on the board are; Prof. Daniel Ansong, Dean, KNUST Medical School, and Reverend Sister Prof. Frances Emily Owusu-Ansah.
