Warriors Players, Coaches Recover From Covid-19

By Sports Reporter ZIMBABWE’S preparations for the African Nations Championship (CHAN) finals received a boost after 15 players and officials who tested positive for Covid-19 two weeks ago managed to recover following another round of tests on Friday. The Warriors’ preparations for the continental tournament for home-based players were brought to a halt after nine players and six officials, including coach Zdravko Logarusic, all tested positive on return to camp from the Christmas break on December 28. ZIFA was forced to cancel the team’s training session as the affected members went into isolation. The local football mother body however revealed on Saturday that only one player is yet to recover, and preparations have resumed ahead of the team’s departure for the tournament on Wednesday.

Thursday, 7 January 2021 Zimbabwe have submitted a larger squad for the upcoming African Nations Championship (CHAN) with 10 players on standby after being hit by an outbreak of coronavirus within the camp. Nine players and five members of staff have tested positive for COVID-19, delivering a huge blow to Zimbabwe’s preparations for the tournament which is due to start on January 16 in Cameroon. With nations due to submit their 23-player squads today, the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) sent a letter last week to the Confederation of African Football (CAF) asking for an extension to the deadline. But according to Bulawayo24, the ZIFA has yet to receive a response, forcing them to add an extra 10 names to the squad as doubts reign over the involvement of the players that have contracted coronavirus.
