Deltona woman accused of lying threatens to sue Sheriff Office

A Deltona woman who Volusia County Sheriff Mike Chitwood said falsely accused a deputy of unwanted touching is now threatening to sue the sheriff’s office, claiming the unwanted touching and Chitwood s disparaging remarks caused her mental anguish.  Prosecutors declined to charge the woman, Tammy Stuck, but in doing so also stated the deputy did nothing wrong in their view. Chitwood also dismissed her claims when contacted by the News-Journal on Monday. Tammy Stuck had claimed she suffered unwanted touching from a sheriff’s deputy on April 22 when she was about to enter a Deltona City Commission meeting along with her husband, Jeff Stuck. Tammy Stuck could not be reached for comment on Monday.

North Port picks 11 semifinalists for city manager job

NORTH PORT – North Port city commissioners picked 11 city manager candidate semifinalists from a field of 45 applicants Wednesday morning.  Doug Thomas, a senior vice president with Texas-based SGR, the firm hired to conduct a nationwide search, vetted candidates from as far away as the state of Washington, but five of the top candidates have recent experience in Florida. Eight are certified managers with the International City/County Management Association.  Three of those candidates, Caryn Gardner-Young, a Florid Department of Transportation planning supervisor; Thomas Hutka, public works director for Broward County; and Jane Shang, former city manager for Deltona, were all semifinalists in April for the Fort Myers city manager job that went to Marty Lawing, the former county manager in Guilford County, North Carolina.

Volusia tax collector wants to bring office to Deltona by year's end

Editor s note: This story has been updated to reflect the correction of two errors. The offices in Orange City will be co-located into the Volusia Avenue office. The $22 for each concealed carry license and $12 for a renewal is the revenue the tax collector s office loses out on. The largest city in Volusia County doesn t have a tax collector s office. But Deltona could see one come to fruition by the end of this year, or at least that s the goal. Will Roberts, the first Volusia County tax collector in 50 years, shared his plans recently with the Deltona City Commission. I m currently working with the City of Deltona, the County of Volusia to make sure that we find a good space that s efficient, economic, and we re trying to get that done with by the end of this year, Roberts said at the April 19 commission meeting. Now of course what this is going to do is create more expense.
