Legislative priorities include gun bills, but not marijuana
Carney expressed his support for a pair of gun bills making their way through the General Assembly. One measure would require training and a permit for anyone buying a handgun. The other bans high-capacity magazines.
“I do support them, yes, we’ll see whether there is enough support in the legislature,” he said. “I don’t want anybody to lose focus on the real problem in our state, which is handgun violence, street gun, handgun violence in the city of Wilmington and Dover and Seaford and other communities across the state.”

DuPont, 86, had been in ill health for some time.
While serving as governor, duPont, the Republican and a member of the prominent Delaware family, is widely credited with helping Delaware pull out of a steep economic decline.
His administration pushed through the Financial Center Delaware Act, which brought tens of thousands of financial services jobs to Delaware after the state lifted interest rate caps on credit cards and made other changes.
The lack of interest rate cap led to the state becoming a credit card mecca. Banks also located back office and technology jobs in Delaware.

U.S. Sen. Tom Carper called him one of his most important mentors. So did former Gov. Jack Markell. Gov. John Carney described him as a “real leader.”
Secretary of State Jeffrey Bullock said he is a “true icon of Delaware politics.”
Pete du Pont, the former governor, presidential candidate and congressman, died Saturday in his Wilmington home after a “long illness,” according to a family spokesman. He was 86.
To many in Delaware, du Pont, a Republican, represented a brand of politics that is hard to find these days the kind that has Democrats and Republicans collectively praising his contributions to the state.
