The first “Spring Game” of the Mel Tucker era has concluded. Despite being more of a practice than what has been seen in the past, there are five key takeaways that are noticeable from our first look at the 2021 Michigan State Spartans.

Michigan State doesn’t have a quarterback in its next recruiting class and will have to wait longer for word on its apparent top target at the position.
AJ Duffy, a 2022 four-star quarterback from IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla., was scheduled to announce his commitment on Wednesday but pushed back the decision.

Cody White and Darrell Stewart Jr. were Michigan State’s top wide receivers in 2019 and both had to be replaced.
White declared for the NFL draft after his junior season while Stewart graduated. That was after the two combined for 115 receptions for 1,619 yards and 10 touchdowns in their final year with the Spartans.
