Georgetown launches Racial Justice Institute Georgetown’s first university-wide racial justice effort, the Racial Justice Institute (RJI) will come into effect four years after the university committed to its creation.  The new institute, officially launched in a community-wide email on Feb. 22 by University President John DeGioia, will address issues of racial injustice and inequality across university disciplines. The RJI is intended to serve as a meeting place for activists and scholars to address the history of racial discrimination and oppression and promote the well-being of BIPOC. The concept for the RJI was born in 2016 as part of Georgetown’s effort to address its own history with slavery. Property owners ask Miami-Dade officials to stop protecting squatters

MIAMI – Property owners are complaining about the advantages that squatters, who don’t have a valid lease or pay rent, seem to be enjoying in Miami-Dade County. Miami-Dade Commission Chairman Jose “Pepe” Diaz said it’s a problem that needs to be handled immediately. Miami Commissioner Raquel Regalado agrees. “This is about property rights,” Regalado said. “Every Friday, we bring this up, and every Friday we are told that ‘There are no squatters!’ that ‘Squatters are being removed!’ and then . we hear another story. Cape Cod restaurants: Mezza Luna survives with same menu, more takeout

Cape Cod Times When you walk into Mezza Luna Restaurant in Buzzards Bay, you encounter a wall of snapshots and handwritten notes crowded together and sometimes overlapping showing families marking occasions from christenings to weddings to bereavements.      Owner E. J. Cubellis II (Emilio John, but few know that because he has always been E.J.) took over the business in 1993 at age 21 from his father, E.J. Cubellis, also an Emilio but called Johnny. Johnny took over the business from his mother, Speranza Cubellis, who started Mezza Luna in 1937 out of the family home. The generations of family owners and the wall of patrons’ photos, as well as the hearty greetings of “E.J., how are you E.J.?” when he walks through Mezza Luna’s five dining spaces all speak to why Cubellis, 48, reopened the restaurant after taking a four-month break from March 29 to July 27, 2020.
