MANSFIELD – The Mansfield fire and police departments has celebrated a year’s worth of promotions and new hires.
The swearing-in ceremony held June 2 at the public safety building had been delayed repeatedly over the past year due to COVID restrictions.
As a result, seven firefighters and five police officers were sworn in together by Town Clerk Marianne Staples with parents, spouses and children all looking on.
“Some have been waiting awhile for this night,” Fire Chief Justin Desrosiers said. “Unfortunately, a lot of the promotions and hires tonight were in the midst of the COVID pandemic.
“As we all worked tirelessly through the pandemic Chief Sellon and myself sat down many times to plan a promotional ceremony. Every time we would try and plan one working around the restrictions at the time we always came to the conclusion that it would be in the best interest of the people being recognized if we just waited.”
