BECOMING OTHELLO: A BLACK GIRL S JOURNEY opens July 16 at Shakespeare & Company in Lenox, Massachusetts. The piece is positioned as a multimedia theatrical production with lyrical language, soulful songs and the music that shaped the life of a resilient little girl growing up in Spanish Harlem. It has been described as an autobiographical solo show also, a living memoir .
The production is directed by S&Co. founder, Tina Packer, who has been described as one of the world s living experts on the Bard . Given the venue and Packer s involvement, we thought, the piece will have something to do with Shakespeare s Othello. And yet, there must be more to it. LENOX â Shakespeare & Company has added three more productions to its 2021 season. Art, by Yasmina Reza and translated by Christopher Hampton, examines the power and value of modern art, money and friendship. Directed by Christopher V. Edwards, Art will run July 30 to Aug. 22 in The Roman Garden Theatre. Debbie Tucker Greenâs hang, a fascinating and explosive play directed by Regge Life, will run Sept. 10 through Oct. 3 in the Tina Packer Playhouse. The Chairs, from the internationally renowned master of modern drama, Eugene Ionesco â best known for the comic proportions and bizarre effects that allow his work to be simultaneously hilarious, tragic and profound â will run Oct. 8â31 in a production directed by James Warwick. The Chairs will also be presented in the Tina Packer Playhouse.
