Shooting at Tennessee High School leaves one dead, officer injured

UPDATE: APRIL 12 AT 6:10 P.M. KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - At approximately 3:15 p.m. Monday, the Knoxville Police Department (KPD) received report of an individual possibly armed with a gun at Austin-East Magnet High School. In a tweet from KPD, they said officers responded to the scene and located the individual inside a school restroom. Officers reportedly ordered the individual out of the restroom, but the individual refused to comply. KPD said officers entered the restroom and were met with gunfire. The subject, reportedly, fired shots, striking an officer. One officer returned fire, according to KPD. The individual was pronounced dead at the scene, and has been identified as a student, according to KPD.

That was when he started shooting, and police responded by firing back, as per WAND-TV. Police said a teen died at the school, and an officer was injured and had to undergo surgery at UT Medical Center. The officer is expected to survive.
