Judge allows Texas to remove Planned Parenthood from Medicaid

A judge has issued an order allowing Texas to remove Planned Parenthood from the state Medicaid program, preventing the abortion provider from getting an injunction.
State District Judge Lora Livingston of Travis County issued an order on Wednesday, blocking the injunction request, arguing that Planned Parenthood should pursue action through federal courts.
“This decision is not made lightly. In the light of the ongoing public health crisis, the risks of the individual losing healthcare and medical attention requires increased attention and scrutiny,” wrote Livingston, as reported by the Austin-American Statesman. ....

On the day Texas was set to end Planned Parenthood’s Medicaid funds, the abortion vendor filed an emergency lawsuit with a district court that granted a temporary restraining order against the state.
State District Judge Maya Guerra Gamble in Travis County set a hearing date for February 17, reported the
Texas Tribune.
Breitbart News noted that, as of February 3, Texas would no longer allow Planned Parenthood to receive taxpayer funds through Medicaid reimbursements.
The state gave Planned Parenthood until that date to refer its clients to other facilities after the abortion provider asked for a delay, citing the pandemic. ....

Texas has permanently ended the use of taxpayer money from being used to fund Planned Parenthood in the state.
From February 3, Planned Parenthood facilities in the state will no longer receive tax dollars through the Medicaid program.
According to the Catholic News Agency, the abortion provider made a request to continue to receive Medicaid reimbursement funding for its clinics, which Texas denied.
The executive director of the Texas Catholic Conference of Bishops, Jennifer Allmon, praised the persistence of the Texas legislature on the matter.
Allmon said that many other options actually exist for women, despite the abortion industry spreading the narrative that low-income women need Planned Parenthood for health services. ....
