Lions Clubs exist to serve, and members pride themselves on serving their local communities and people around the world. Occasionally we are reminded that it is dedicated individuals who make that service possible. The Columbus Lions Club recently honored Doug Lilie for his 54 years of illustrious and dedicated service as a Lion with a Lifetime Membership Award. Doug joined the Lions in 1967. To put that in perspective, when Doug became a Lion, Lyndon Johnson was in the White House and he has been a Lion during the administrations of 11 different U. S. presidents. When Doug joined Lions Club, you could mail a letter for five cents, buy a dozen eggs for 49 cents, and fill your tank with 33 cents/gallon gasoline.
The coronavirus pandemic has forced many activities, fundraisers and annual events to go virtual since 2020, and that s continuing this year with the Lubbock Lions Club Pancake Festival.
The Lubbock Lions Club announced this past week that the 69th Annual Pancake Festival will be a virtual event called Pancakes@Home, which will be held on Saturday, February 20th, 2021.
If you ve ever been to the Pancake Festival, you probably saw this one coming. It s a huge event and typically there s not much social distancing going on. There just isn t enough room when thousands attend such an event.
Instead of gathering at the Lubbock Memorial Civic Center, this year s Pancake Festival will be held through social media. The event will be hosted through a Facebook event page where you can show off your own homemade pancakes.

LUBBOCK, Texas (NEWS RELEASE) - The Lubbock Lions Club Board of Directors has made the decision to have a virtual 69th Annual Pancake Festival, scheduled for Saturday, February 20, 2021. The decision was made from an abundance of research and discussion regarding public health and wellness regarding the COVID-19 pandemic to avoid face to face interactions at the event. The Lions Club leadership Board and Pancake Co-Chairs have decided to have an alternate event, a virtual event hosted through social media – Facebook. This will still consider the health and safety of the lions, attendees and volunteers which are the top priority.
