OGLESBY – The Illinois Valley Community College’s Dental Assisting Program will be offering free or reduced-cost dental clinics for IVCC students, staff and the community.
Clinics are 8 a.m. to noon on Fridays Jan. 29 through May 7 (excluding March 19) in the Dental Lab. Screening days for new patients only are Jan. 29 and Feb. 5 and include x-rays, a comprehensive exam, treatment plans and oral hygiene instruction. Recommended treatment will be scheduled. Treatments are free for IVCC students and employees and qualifying patients are charged $30. The May 7 clinic is for small restorations at $25 per restoration.
The clinics do not provide any oral surgery, removable or fixed prosthetics (dentures/partials), orthodontic procedures or prescribe any medications. Northern Essex Community College is expanding its health care programs with a night Dental Assisting Program as well as offering micro-credentials for area health workers thanks to a $400,000 state grant.
The money is part of $11.7 million distributed this year under the Massachusetts Skills Capital Program. Grants help high schools, colleges and other educational institutions invest in the most up-to-date training equipment in such fields as construction, engineering, hospitality and health.
“This is great news for the college, our community partners and anyone who accesses health services in the Merrimack Valley,” said Scott Lancaster, interim dean of health professions. “Our facilities for training health care workers are the best.
