DUMONT After more than a year of construction, the borough s $24 million municipal complex has officially opened to the public by appointment only after move-in began for workers last weekend. The building was originally scheduled to open at the end of December.
The three-story building on Washington Avenue houses the Police Department on the first floor. The second has municipal offices, and the third floor is devoted to the Municipal Court, the council chambers, and offices for the Recreation Department and Fire Department. There are also two conference rooms.
There are two parking lots, one for the public near the front entrance and one for the police on the other side of the building, facing Quackenbush Avenue. At the side of the complex is a sally port a secure walkway for suspects led in and out by Dumont police.

NorthJersey.com reports: “The suspension was announced in front of a sparse crowd during the Dumont Board of Education meeting held in-person Thursday night in the high school auditorium. The district’s business administrator, Kevin Cartotto, said during the meeting the teachers were suspended pending the completion of an investigation and possible disciplinary action. He added that state law does not allow school boards to suspend teachers without pay except as part of the tenure charge filing process.”

Four New Jersey high school teachers have been suspended over anti-gay remarks they made during a Zoom class last month, school officials said.
A Dumont High School student took a screenshot of the Nov. 25 chat which was then shared online by former student Matthew DeMarco, NorthJersey.com reported.
The offensive remarks were part of a conversation between teachers that students were “inadvertently” able to view, according to the school district’s business administrator Kevin Cartotto.
“Why is that kid with the gay gym teacher?” one teacher wrote, according to the screenshot.
