Pittsfield committee backs $100,000 boost to convert Morningside Firehouse into apartments

PITTSFIELD — A proposal to redevelop the former Morningside Firehouse into four market-rate apartments advanced toward receiving a $100,000 boost in Community Preservation Act money.

New blueprint for downtown development now the law in Pittsfield


PITTSFIELD — A new set of zoning policies will guide development in downtown Pittsfield, allowing entrepreneurs to seek permits faster, with less hassle.
The City Council backed the new Downtown Creative District in a 9-1 vote Tuesday, but not before one councilor questioned whether it was giving developers a pass on efforts to provide more affordable housing in Pittsfield.
City Planner C.J. Hoss told councilors that the new zoning, sent to the council by the Community Development Board, replaces rules in place since 2004, when the city took steps to steer the kind of development it wanted to see downtown through what became known as the Downtown Arts Overlay District. ....

Pittsfield investment on Dan Fox Drive, to aid Bousquet project, wins initial OK


PITTSFIELD — A City Council subcommittee has signed off on a request from Mayor Linda Tyer to spend $960,000 to install public water and sewer along Dan Fox Drive.
The council’s Community and Economic Development Committee unanimously approved Tyer’s order seeking the allocation from the General Electric Economic Development Fund, sending the matter back to the full council for consideration.
The money would be used to expand the city’s sewer and water service on Dan Fox Drive to the Bousquet Ski Area, allowing Mill Town Capital to proceed with development plans, including construction of a new lodge and setting the stage for future development in the area, said Community Development Director Deanna Ruffer. ....
