The election was held in 17 of the borough’s 20 wards. The results mean the Conservative party is in overall control of the council, while the Labour party maintained 16 seats, gaining one and losing one. The Conservative councillors now number 29, with 28 seats being held and one seat being gained. The Thurrock Independents also held on to their seats, maintaining three councillors. There was one other independent who held their seat, while another candidate lost theirs. In total in the borough, the overall turnout was 27.34 per cent. The Tories held on to stronghold seats such as Aveley and Uplands, Belhus, Orsett, Ockendon, Stanford-le-hope West and Stanford East and Corringham Town. ....
THE results of Thurrock Council’s elections have been announced. Elections took place in 17 of the borough’s 20 wards yesterday (Thursday, 6 May). The results mean the Conservative party is in overall control of the council, with the current breakdown of seats as follows: 29 Conservative (held 28 seats, gained 1) 16 Labour (held 16 seats, gained 1, lost 1) 3 Thurrock Independents (held 3 seats, gained 0) 1 Independent (held 1 seat, lost 1) The overall turnout was 27.34% per cent. The full list of results is available at thurrock.gov.uk/vote2021. The election for the Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner (PFCC) for Essex also took place on Thursday 6 May. The results for the region will be available from Saturday 8 May and will be published online at thurrock.gov.uk. ....
THIS is a seat that Labour will really want to win and a seat they have been working very hard to win. The Labour candidate is Kairen Raper. Her colleagues think very highly of her and believe she can really make a difference. She will be greatly assisted by having campaigned with Tilbury St Chads councillor, Steve Liddiard, who is high respected in the ward. Labour lost this to UKIP four years ago (we think Lynn Worrall is over it now) but there is a different landscape now. John Allen then became a Thurrock Independent. He has received a lot of praise and certainly many people like his brand of community representation. Again, John has to be praised for staying with the Thurrock Independent project. ....
