AUBURN â The Auburn Police Department and Fire Department both received approval to hire new employees at Thursdayâs meeting of the Auburn Board of Public Works and Safety.
The Police Department is hiring Derick Campbell as a patrolman. The department chose Campbell, a former area resident, through a lengthy hiring process.
The Fire Department will employ Cody LaRowe as a new firefighter. He is the son of retired firefighter Chip LaRowe, who still works part-time for the department, Fire Chief Michael VanZile said.
The board gave permission to Auburn City Steakhouse, 203 S. Main St., to expand its outdoor dining area along the 100 block of West 8th Street.

Three local counties boost rating to orange
INDIANAPOLIS â A week after seeing COVID-19 ratings worsen to their worst point ever, Indiana showed marked improvement last week, with many counties getting better ratings than the week before.
That included northeast Indiana, where Noble, DeKalb and LaGrange counties all improved from red to orange. Steuben County stayed in red, but just barely, as it showed improvement from a week ago, too, just not enough to change colors.
Overall, Indiana saw a widespread and rapid improvement from where it was a week earlier, although all but one county remained in orange and red, the two color codes representing the highest spread of COVID-19.
