The hospital gardens at the Drumheller Health Centre are a lot brighter thanks to the Drumheller Area Health Foundation’s (DAHF ) Be a Light! fundraiser. The community purchased solar lights, donated by Drumheller Canadian Tire to be placed in the hospital gardens to brighten the days of our Continuing Care residents and hospital patients while raising funds for the foundation. The Be a Light! fundraiser raised approximately $2,325 to fund the greatest need hospital equipment for the Drumheller Health Centre, and a few more lights can be purchased. Installing the lights are (l-r) Drumheller Canadian Tire owner Justin Lamoureux, DAHF treasurer Gary Krabsen, DAHF chair Susan Schmidt, and DAHF secretary Jackie Watts.
Being prepared in the event of an emergency is important, especially when living in a flood community like the Town of Drumheller, but preparing your family and home for the unexpected can seem like a daunting task.
Drumheller Mayor Heather Colberg, Drumheller Fire Chief Bruce Wade, along with home inspector Steve Pittman, joined Justin Lamoureaux at Drumheller Canadian Tire on Thursday, April 29 to discuss the importance of having a 72-hour emergency kit on hand, and what steps to take to protect your home in the event of flooding.
“Especially around here with bentonite in some of the areas, if you don’t have a good grade away from the home, water will sit between the wall of dirt and the wall of the home,” Pittman told the Mail. “We get that cold weather and it’s going to freeze and the water’s going to expand and push on the foundation and cause cracks and cause damage.”
Teagyn and the Third Drumheller Brownies are getting ready to sell their infamous Girl Guide cookies at the Drumheller Canadian Tire on Saturday, May 8, and there is plenty to go around with 180 cases of cookies. Last year, Drumheller Canadian Tire helped support the annual cookie sales when COVID restrictions prevented Guides from selling only two days after receiving their shipment. As current restrictions continue to limit in-person interactions and door-to-door sales, the table will provide a safe way for cookie lovers to get their fix. Funds raised through the cookie sales will stay in Drumheller and help support the five local units. Please call local Girl Guide leader Noella Brisbois at 403-334-3841 if you would like to place an order.
