HotSpot, US firm to deliver 2,000 telecoms sites in rural Nigeria The Punch

Hotspot Network Limited, a tower collocation and infrastructure sharing service provider, has selected Parallel Wireless, a United States-based Open RAN company, to deliver 2G, 3G and 4G coverage across 2,000 villages in Nigeria for MTN.
The Founder and CEO, HotSpot Network Limited, Morenikeji Aniye, in a statement said that it planned to deliver 500 sites in the first year for he telecom operator.
The statement issued by Parallel Wireless is entitled ‘Hotspot Partners with Parallel Wireless to Deliver on Nigeria’s Connectivity Vision’.
Aniye said, “Hotspot has signed a commercial agreement with MTN to deploy more than 2,000 sites starting with 500 in year one.

Parallel Wireless, an open RAN company delivering software-defined end-to-end 5G, 4G, 3G and 2G open RAN solutions, is to be part of a partnership to deliver rural communications in Nigeria.
Parallel Wireless has been selected by Hotspot Network Limited, a Network as a Service (NaaS) provider, as a part of Digital Farmers Club (DFC), Universal Service Provision Fund (USPF) and NITDA Adopted Village for Smart Agriculture (NAVSA) connectivity initiatives which aim to deliver 2G, 3G and 4G coverage across 2,000 villages in Nigeria.
Hotspot Network, a network-as-a-service provider, has signed a commercial agreement with MTN s operations in Nigeria to roll out open RAN to 2,000 villages. Morenikeji Aniye, CEO of Hotspot Network, said the aim was to establish 500 open RAN sites in year one.
Parallel Wireless, which has been scooping up a fair amount of open RAN contracts of late, is part of the supplier mix.
The US software company can support all of the cellular generations in an open RAN environment, and is primarily supporting 2G and 3G in Nigeria, along with some 4G, over the 900MHz frequency band.
Hotspot Network, which earns its crust from offering managed services to communications service providers in Nigeria, including building, operating and managing towers and infrastructure, is systems integrator in the open RAN deployment.
