The decision to study stateside was born from her desire to explore the ‘original source’ of jazz.

Logic Pro | Advanced MIDI Manipulation: Part 1

Logic Pro | Advanced MIDI Manipulation: Part 1 Apple Logic Pro X Tips & Techniques We demonstrate how flexible Logic Pro’s MIDI processing tools can be. In 1983, the second most successful computer networking protocol was born. Unlike those that underpin the Internet, the Musical Instrument Digital Interface (MIDI) was not created by an academic offshoot of the military wing of the United States, but by a consortium of synthesizer manufacturing companies led by Dave Smith of Sequential and Ikutaro Kakehashi of Roland. At first, this new protocol was mostly used to connect synthesizers and drum machines together, but the advent of powerful and affordable computers such as the Atari ST led to the development of the grandparents of the Digital Audio Workstations we use today.

Ableton Live 11 Suite review: Audio workstation built for the creative musician

Macworld Ableton Live 11 Suite review: Audio workstation built for the creative musician This expansive digital audio workstation s (think Logic) sleek workflow and minimalist interface eases the creative process. Credit: Ableton Apple’s feature-packed Logic Pro software gets the lion’s share of attention from the musical-oriented Mac media with a gigantic feature set and at its comparitively affordable $200 price, that’s rightfully so. However, Logic, like nearly all Digital Audio Workstations (DAWs), follows a design bent more on accomodating studios and audio engineers than creatives. Ableton Live, on the other hand, is a DAW that was designed by musicians for musicians, and likely a better fit for the average Mac-wielding, musical type.

REVIEW: Ableton Live 11 - Audio Media International

REVIEW: Ableton Live 11 What is it? What s great? Some useful improvements for performance and recording. Live is still as unique a tool as ever. Spitfire’s orchestral packs are great. What s not? MPE not available on all Live’s Instrument yet. It’s a steep learning curve for the new user, but patience reaps rewards. The bottom line Live 11 is an essential upgrade for all Live users, while improvements in the ‘linear’ elements of the software might tempt others to join the Live community. Equipment Although a process of convergent evolution has taken place in the world of Digital Audio Workstations (DAWs), Ableton Live has always stood out from the crowd. Eschewing the ‘tape recorder’ paradigm of most DAWS, Live‘s Session view allows the musician to create and manipulate audio and MIDI clips without the constraint of a linear timeline.
