A fire Saturday in north Collier County grew to 1,200 acres by Sunday

More than three-fourths of a 1,200-acre fire in north Collier County remained active Sunday morning with firefighters from two counties working to further contain flames that destroyed one home and damaged others. Early Sunday morning the Florida Forest Service Caloosahatchee Center was reporting the fire was about 20 percent contained. The fire began near Desoto Boulevard South and 14th Avenue Southeast.   The following roads are closed due to the brush fire, according to the Collier County Sheriff s Office:  Desoto Boulevard south of Golden Gate Boulevard Everglades Boulevard south of Golden Gate Boulevard  Voluntary evacuations are in place for the following streets due to the brush fire:

Sunday afternoon the Florida Forest Service Caloosahatchee Center was reporting the fire remained about 20 percent contained. Melinda Avni, a mitigation specialist for the Florida Forest Service Caloosahatchee Center, said the service s wildland firefighters were building and improving existing containment lines around the fire and providing access for cooperating structure crews.
