Fossil pigments shed new light on vertebrate evolution ANI | Updated: Feb 04, 2021 22:53 IST
Washington [US], February 4 (ANI): UCC palaeontologists have discovered new evidence that the fate of vertebrate animals over the last 400 million years has been shaped by microscopic melaninpigments.
This new twist in the story of animal evolution is based on cutting-edge analyses of melanin granules - melanosomes - in many different fossil and modern vertebrates, including fish, amphibians, reptiles, birds, and mammals.
Melanin and melanosomes have traditionally been linked to outermost body tissues such as skin, hair, and feathers, with important roles in UV protection and stiffening of tissues.

For business leaders everywhere, 2020 was a year like no other. In March, within weeks of the start of the coronavirus outbreak, much of the country was locked down, international borders were closed, millions of workers rushed to set up offices in their homes, supply chains were turned on their head and consumers changed the way they shopped, socialised, exercised and ate.
Atlassian futurist Dominic Price believes workers should spend about 20 per cent of their time in the office where they can collaborate on the most complex problems.Â

The health crisis left many companies scrambling to stay afloat, look after the health and safety of their staff and customers, empty their offices in a matter of days and then manage newly remote workforces. âUnprecedentedâ and âpivotâ quickly became two of the most overused words of the year - but in both cases for good reason.
