The Hold Steady,
This Brooklyn-via-Minneapolis band’s excellent eighth studio album is their strongest since 2008’s
Stay Positive, featuring an expansive, dynamic and revitalized sound on richly detailed songs with soaring guitars, bright keyboards, punchy horns and more accompanying some of Craig Finn’s more captivating narratives of characters surviving on society’s margins, with the album’s main themes revolving around power, wealth and mental health. The next Lost Horizons album In Quiet Moments is out on February 26th.
Lost Horizons have shared their new single Heart Of A Hummingbird and its video, featuring KookieLou AKA Lily Wolter from Penelope Isles.
“In 2018 we toured the UK with Penelope Isles opening up for us every night, and it was one of the most brilliant times I’ve had on tour,” Lost Horizons say.
“It reminded me of the Cocteau Twins / Dif Juz tour of 1984. The friendships spawned and the love and respect that our bands showed to each other throughout was really special. There were 7 of us in the Lost Horizons live band and every one of us watched Penelope Isles each night, usually in awe.”

CD Reviews
Christopher Culver (3 out of 5 stars) Drawing on the immense and varied talent signed to his record label 4AD, Ivo Watts-Russell created the collaborative project This Mortal Coil, specializing mainly in covers of Russell s favorite songs. A first album called It ll End in Tears appeared in 1984. FILIGREE & SHADOW was the second effort and came out in 1986.
The line-up has changed somewhat on this release. Elizabeth Frazer and Robin Guthrie of Cocteau Twins don t appear, but their bassist Simon Raymonde came on board and contributed a great deal. Similarly Brendan Perry and Lisa Gerrard of Dead Can Dance didn t participate, but their drummer Peter Ulrich contributed percussion to some tracks here. The sisters Deidre and Rutkowski, and Breathless singer Dominic Appleton provide here most of the vocals. Two members of Dif Juz contribute a certain ambience.

We Will Always Love You (Astralwerks)
This Australian duo’s third album is an excellent set of buoyant, star-bound electronic grooves inflected with disco, house, funk, hip hop, soul, folk and much more, combining a wide range of samples with live instrumentation and an impressive lineup of guest vocalists ranging from Blood Orange, Leon Bridges and Perry Farrell to Denzel Curry, Tricky and Sampa the Great.
