Bell said she had to be hospitalized for a day and received treatment to improve her breathing.
“I was like, ‘Oh no, don’t put me on a vent, ” she said. “That’s how bad it was. I couldn’t breathe. I felt like an elephant was sitting on my chest. It felt like I had COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease), and I’ve never smoked a day in my life.”
Bell said House Speaker Chris Sprowls, R-Palm Harbor, offered to have other members carry her bills if she couldn’t return to Tallahassee. She praised her staff members, Anne Bell, Tommy Griffin and Kara Lucas, for helping her stay abreast with what was happening in the Legislature.
