The number of international students enrolled at BYU declined by 300 students from 2020 to 2021, despite an upward tick in overall enrollment.
Data provided to The Daily Universe by BYU’s communications team shows that while overall enrollment increased by 6%, international student enrollment fell by 20%. However, that 20% drop is lower than the national average decrease of 43%, according to data from the State Department and the Institute of International Education.

“The dip in (BYU’s) numbers is directly connected to the challenges presented by COVID-19, with many students either not coming due to visa/pandemic restraints or people leaving to be at home, “Hard to compare these numbers to past years because of that,” BYU spokesperson Todd Hollingshead said.

SB191 sets regulations on law enforcement agencies in private higher education institutions. This bill applies directly to BYU as the only private university with a police force in Utah. (Preston Crawley)
The Utah Legislature is considering a bill that establishes regulations and authority given to law enforcement agencies in private schools.
According to sponsor Sen. Curtis Bramble, R-Provo, SB191 applies directly to BYU because it’s the only private institution in Utah with a police agency.
The bill establishes a certification process for private police agencies and describes policy and procedure requirements. It also establishes due process procedures for taking formal action against a private law enforcement agency.

My son started his senior year of high school this year in quarantine. Pre-pandemic, the school system struggled to prepare my special-needs son for the rigors of adult life. During quarantine, its failures are all the more magnified.
Many parents, even before the pandemic began, would pay to supplement their children s education, and the government ensures the income of parents and guardians determines how much money a student can put toward college or university.
The bottom line is that parents are deeply invested in their children s education, from grade school all the way through college or trade school and government bureaucrats and their higher-education bedfellows take full advantage of that fact.
