More trees donated in Marshalltown | News, Sports, Jobs

A total of 195 trees will be donated in Marshalltown this week. Riverview Park and the Marshalltown Little League Park received 65 trees from the Marshalltown High School Bobcat Alumni Fund on Wednesday. The remaining 130 trees will be donated to JBS employees this Friday and available for pick-up on Saturday. JBS Marshalltown, in partnership with MHS Bobcat Alumni Fund, are providing 130 trees to JBS employees who lost trees on their private property during the 2018 tornado and 2020 derecho. Bi-lingual planting instructions will be provided with each tree. JBS Plant Manager Todd Carl will receive a “Foliage Hall of Fame” plaque in recognition of the company’s platinum level donation.

JBS providing college, trade school tuition free | News, Sports, Jobs

Marshalltown’s biggest employer is providing free college and trade school opportunities for their employees, including dependents of employees. Members of Marshalltown Community School Board heard from JBS Marshalltown General Manager Todd Carl at Monday night’s board meeting about the “Better Futures Program,” in which JBS USA will give employees and their dependents the opportunity to pursue associates degrees and trade certificates tuition free, paid for by JBS. Carl said one intention of the “Better Futures” program is to grow and sustain JBS’s workforce.

Mayor Joel Greer has extended the citywide mask mandate he originally issued in November. The mandate was set to expire Friday. It requires every person in Marshalltown to wear a mask covering their mouth and nose when in public indoor settings, using public transportation and outdoors if social distancing is not possible. The Iowa Department of Public Health advises masks and face coverings can help slow the spread of COVID-19.
