A grand jury has indicted a Missouri man on charges of threatening two Democratic congressmen.
The Justice Department announced Wednesday that Kenneth R. Hubert was indicted Feb. 23 on charges of threatening to assault and murder Reps. Emanuel Cleaver (D-Mo.) and Steve Cohen
“The director of the [FBI] field office in Kansas City called me a couple hours ago and told me his agents had just arrested someone for threats on me,” Cleaver told The Kansas City Star, “and that their office was being very vigilant in the aftermath of the Jan. 6 uprising.”

Cleaver told the newspaper he had first heard of the threat against him from Cohen and informed his staff.

The OIG referred its findings to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia, which declined to open a criminal investigation. The Justice Department’s Public Integrity Section also declined to open an investigation.
DeFazio said in a statement that he was “disappointed” that the OIG didn’t finish the investigation while Chao was in office, and that DOJ declined to take up the investigation.
“Public servants, especially those responsible for leading tens of thousands of other public servants, must know that they serve the public and not their family’s private commercial interests,” he said.
“We don’t need any other sideshow, chatter, infighting. What we need to be is unified against this terrible Democrat agenda that is literally against everything that Joe Biden spoke about in terms of unity and coming together in a bipartisan fashion,” Wagner said.

The GOP is still reeling from the political fallout from the Jan. 6 riot that led to the deaths of five people, including a Capitol Police officer. GOP leaders were also put in the unenviable spot of defending a new member, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.), for her endorsement of racist screeds and calls for violence against prominent Democrats a social media track record that prompted the House to strip Greene of her committee assignments.
