Memorandum of Understanding will protect Cornwall fishermen

A landmark agreement has been signed that should help protect the safety of sailors and fishermen in Cornwall. The formal agreement between the Maritime and Coastguard Agency and the Merchant Navy Welfare Board (MNWB) sets out ways both will work together in a fully coordinated approach to protect the welfare of those visiting UK ports, including Falmouth, Truro, Newly and Penzance. The Memorandum of Understanding sets out the specific responsibilities of both organisations, as well as commits to sharing information about matters affecting seafarers’ and fishers’ welfare, seeking advice and consulting on other issues. It now formally recognises the already strong relationship of the two bodies, which have been working together on welfare matters for years.
