Poor weather closes Douglas Prom

Douglas Promenade has been closed due to poor weather conditions. Police say the entire length of the prom has been shut to vehicles until further notice. Winds are expected to reach up to gale force 8 today with high tide due at 10:22am.

Section of Douglas Prom closed for emergency cleaning

A section of Douglas Promenade has been closed for emergency cleaning operations to be carried out. The southbound lane will be closed from Broadway to the Sea Terminal between 8am and not later than 1pm in order to facilitate emergency cleaning operations at Manx Utilities Pumping Station on Loch Promenade. The northbound lane (towards Broadway) will remain open throughout. The road will fully reopen as soon as operations are complete.

Douglas Prom works restart
Work will resume on Douglas Promenade from today. The project was put on hold at the start of the Island s circuit breaker lockdown. Trades including construction were allowed to return to work over the weekend following the easing of some restrictions. My Prom says all highways workers will follow the latest Government regulations and guidelines.

Castle Rushen High School headteacher Keith Winstanley praised staff and pupils for adapting remarkably well during the pandemic.
He was speaking at the school’s annual awards ceremony.
Mr Winstanley began his speech by noting that such a ’mass gathering’ of people would not have been possible in ’any other British Isles jurisdiction’, before going on to talk about the disruption caused by Covid-19, saying: ’Along with traffic chaos on Douglas Prom and Steam Packet technical issues, the circle of school life is something we can, to a certain extent, take for granted.
’However, 2019/20 decided to shake things up a little.
