Ottawa theatres, gyms and restaurants welcome July 16 start for Step Three

Article content “We’re happy we were able to assist everyone during the time of need, and we’re looking forward to having our members and others in the community back involved with us. We’re happy to be here for everybody.” Mayfair Theatre co-owner Josh Stafford said he was excited by the accelerated reopening announcement, though it created some logistical challenges. “There’s a part of me that would have been happy if everything was delayed to the 23rd because it just means we have a whole bunch of work to do in the next seven days,” Stafford said, explaining that the Mayfair would need to get in touch with staff and reach out to popcorn and candy vendors, among others.

Ottawa musicians rally to support the Mayfair Theatre during the COVID-19 pandemic

OTTAWA Over twenty musicians are taking part in a two-day live concert this weekend, rallying to support the Mayfair Theatre. And you will be able to watch the concert virtually. The Mayfair Theatre is beloved by many in Old Ottawa South, and across the city. And now, very sadly - the Bytowne (Theatre) is closed down, and we’re the last cinema standing. We’re the last single screen independent cinema, Josh Stafford, co-owner of the Mayfair Theatre tells CTV News Ottawa. Like many businesses impacted by the pandemic, they’ve had to adapt. You look back, and the Mayfair has survived world wars; and, this is a crazy thing, the invention of the television, and then the VCR. It’s made it past a lot, we are very confident that we’ll be back next year, says Stafford.
