The zoo in Thompson Park is opening its summer season Saturday with a birthday celebration.
The first 200 guests will get a cupcake and the celebration also will include serving birthday cake.
The celebration will be the zooâs way to kick off its 100th year in the north country and 30th year as a Conservancy.
Joshua Baughn, director of marketing and development, said the zoo has a lot to celebrate after a year of the pandemic.
âWeâre excited to get back and see people visit their animal friends at the zoo,â he said.
The zoo will host a series of events and activities celebrating the 100th anniversary throughout the summer season, culminating with a black tie event on Aug. 28.

WATERTOWN, N.Y. (WWNY) - Just in time for summer: the zoo can host more animal lovers.
Governor Cuomo is allowing zoo attendance to increase to 50 percent, which means Watertownâs Zoo New York in Thompson Park can now host 1,000 people at once instead of 500.
Officials feel this is great news as the zoo prepares for special events, including the upcoming and popular Brew at the Zoo.
âAs everything is starting to open up, weâre going to continue to do this. Weâre going to continue to be that location where people can come and enjoy festivities, hang out with the animals, enjoy a drink, and take the mask off and relax for a little bit. Enjoy the summertime air,â said Joshua Baughn, director of marketing, Zoo New York.
