ORIGINAL: A science teacher at Phil Campbell High School was arrested on Sunday night following allegations of sexual misconduct.
The Franklin County Sheriffâs Office said they received a complaint that a teacher was engaging in sexual relations with a 17 year old student.
Deputies tell WAFF they interviewed 28 year old Jerry Jordan Benford of Phil Campbell. Authorities said Benford was arrested Sunday evening and charged with sexual offense by a school employee.

A teacher at Phil Campbell High School is facing charges of having sexual relations with one of his students.
Jerry Jordan Benford, 28, was arrested Sunday and charged with school Employee having sexual contact with student under the age of 19, the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office reports.
The sheriff’s office said deputies were contacted Sunday about Benford and a 17-year-old student.
“Mr Benford was placed on leave by the Franklin County Board of Education during a special called board meeting (Monday) morning, said Franklin Co Schools Superintendente Greg Hamilton. I cannot comment on personnel issues beyond that.
