At the same time, Republicans are preparing for a contentious runoff between Susan Wright and Jake Ellzey, even though Wright, backed by former President Donald Trump, would appear to start as the favorite.
National Democrats had kept their distance from the first round and few in the party touted it as a certain bellwether. But the failure to advance to the runoff still stung, and left Democrats especially their top vote-getter openly speculating about their shortcomings.

1. Human shields. Mainly folks who work in Customer Support for those enterprises the bazillionaire owners are greedily sucking the $$$ out of by denying services that people have paid good money for. You can’t get to those mofos because they put overworked & underpaid people between you & them to absorb all the fury.
2. Hostages. These constitute the workforce of the megacorps, i.e., all those who do the actual work rather than sit on their duffs in big offices collecting big compensation. In the rare instance a political jurisdiction gets around to trying to charge a megacorp the actual cost its local facility imposes on the citizenry, they reply airily,
No water follows no power following freezing weather.
My home in the Dallas Area had minor problems in Texas in the 1979 freeze. One was lack of insulation, the second minor amount plumbing frozen.

after one experience with this, after we first moved that funky trailerhouse out here, 25 years ago…it has been my practice to just shut off the water and drain the lines whenever NWS indicates a prolonged period of below freezing(my rule of thumb trigger is 6 hours below 30).
i’ve done this ever since….and the proof of concept is i don’t have to be a plumber, or crawl around in the cold mud under the house, when it finally gets above freezing(PVC pipe dope won’t set under 45 degrees or so….and will become useless in the can if left outside in even the 40’s)
