KUOW s RadioActive Youth Media is proud to offer our 18th annual summer introductory workshop for teens. In our second all-virtual workshop, fifteen teens, aged 15-18, will spend four weeks learning about radio journalism and audio storytelling.
Youth participants will do all of the research, interviews, writing, voicing and editing to produce their own short radio stories from home. By the end of the four weeks, the group will have produced fifteen profile stories. Hear them at our public listening party event.

Agriculture coalition files lawsuit challenging Coachella urgency ordinance
A coalition of agricultural organizations has filed a lawsuit in Riverside Superior Court to block Coachella’s urgency ordinance mandating that farmers and other agricultural employers pay an additional four dollars per hour to their employees for at least 120 days.
In the complaint, plaintiffs Western Growers Association, California Fresh Fruit Association and Growing Coachella Valley argue, among other claims, that there is no factual justification for the urgency ordinance, that it’s unconstitutionally vague and that the urgency ordinance will cause irreparable harm to agricultural employers for which they have no adequate remedy.

As coronavirus cases rise, San Bernardino County has asked the California Supreme Court to overturn Gov. Gavin Newsom’s stay-at-home order, alleging overreach under the state’s emergency act.
County officials are asking the state’s highest court to act by Dec. 28
, when the three-week order is set to expire or be renewed.
Board of Supervisors Chairman Curt Hagman said in a statement that Newsom has improperly acted as both the executive and legislative branch under the California Emergency Services Act since the pandemic hit nine months ago.
If the act grants the governor that power, then the act itself is unconstitutional, Hagman said.
