Remembering a devastating Iowa City tornado, 15 years later Press-Citizen
The tornado touched down near Wal-Mart and Menards along Highway 1 in southwest Iowa City on April 13, 2006. In its nearly 5-mile path, the tornado rated F-2 by the National Weather Service with wind speeds over 150 miles per hour uprooted trees, overturned cars and semi trucks, severely damaged several businesses and homes and destroyed St. Patrick Catholic Church, which had sat at 228 E. Court St. for more than a century.

Friday, 11:45 a.m. update: The suspect in Thursday s standoff with North Liberty police and Johnson County sheriff s deputies had charges filed against him Friday, according to court records.
The Johnson County Sheriff s Office filed a complaint of eluding deputies and booked him into the Johnson County Jail at 6:55 p.m. Thursday, according to the online jail roster.
Deputies allege he was driving a van suspected of being associated with a crime, according to the complaint. When they located the vehicle in Coralville, they tried to stop him but he failed to yield, the complaint reads.
