Riley s Way Foundation has announced the winners of the third annual Call for Kindness, a national contest that funds teen-led projects that inspire kindness, strengthen communities, and bring people together.
This year s Call for Kindness is the biggest yet with a 70% increase in applicants from 2020, hailing from 35 states from around the country. Thirty teens were selected to be awarded up to $3,000 for community projects that embody the Riley s Way values of kindness, empathy, leadership, and connection-making. In honor of Riley Sandler, winners were notified on May 6th, which would have been Riley s 16th birthday.

A judge has denied a motion that sought to prosecute a man in Leavenworth for an attempted murder charge a second time, according to court records.
The judge made the ruling Friday during a hearing in the case of James D. Thompson.
Thompson, 34, previously was charged with attempted first-degree murder in connection to an August 2015 shooting in Leavenworth. During a 2017 trial, the charge of aggravated battery was presented to jurors for consideration as a lesser included offense to the attempted murder charge. And jurors convicted Thompson of the aggravated battery charge instead of attempted murder.
Thompson also was convicted of other charges related to the 2015 incident.

A new hearing date has been set for arguments concerning the possible re-prosecution of a man for an attempted murder charge in Leavenworth.
The hearing is set for Feb. 19 in the case of James D. Thompson.
