lfujimoto@mauinews.com WAILUKU A Kihei man who said he had both used and sold drugs was taken into custody to serve a two-year jail term after police seized heroin, marijuana and cocaine in searches of him and his residence. The jail term was imposed Wednesday as part of 10 years’ probation for William Key, 43, who was arrested after police executed the search warrants Aug. 3, 2016. “You hold the key to everything,” 2nd Circuit Judge Rhonda Loo said in sentencing Key. “I can put you in the lock position or the open position. I’m putting you in the lock position for two years.”

The Maui News WAILUKU A judge kept bail at $200,000 for a man facing multiple felony drug charges, after police reported finding him with a “very significant amount” of methamphetamine and other drugs. David Stewart, 34, pleaded not guilty to two counts of first-degree promotion of a dangerous drug, two counts of attempted first-degree promotion of a dangerous drug, three counts of third-degree promotion of a dangerous drug and fourth-degree promotion of a harmful drug. During a hearing Friday in 2nd Circuit Court, Deputy Prosecutor Joanne Hicks asked for the bail amount to continue. She said Stewart has no verified address, is unemployed and recently returned to Maui from Idaho.

lfujimoto@mauinews.com WAILUKU Saying a defendant was “more naughty than nice,” a judge sentenced a man to five years in prison for thefts and other crimes. Jessie Dutro, 37, of Kihei had agreed to the prison sentence as part of a plea agreement dismissing some charges and dismissing another case. “I made my list. I checked it twice,” 2nd Circuit Judge Rhonda Loo said in sentencing Dutro on Wednesday. “I tried to figure out whether you’re more naughty or nice. I hate to say it, you’re more naughty than nice.” In three criminal cases, Dutro had pleaded no contest to four counts of second-degree theft, unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle, three counts of credit card theft, second-degree criminal property damage, unauthorized possession of confidential personal information, fourth-degree theft and first-degree bail jumping.
