You would think that we would have made significant progress in the past 10 years. We are striving for greater representation in politics, and key roles in business. Yes, some progress is being made, but are we really making headway where it counts? The pandemic has impacted women’s equality by decades, the extra burden being experienced by many in dealing with home education, having to split their time between household and work, means that many women have not been free to focus on their career as many of their male counterparts have. Over this decade we will see the effects of this coming home to roost, unless organisations proactively invest in their female colleagues through mentoring and accelerator programmes. Some companies have been very vocal about getting everyone back in the office as soon as possible. In contrast, others have indicated that their employees can continue to work from anywhere they want to permanently. The return to the office versus the end of the office is a debate that is going to dominate the next few months. There is, however, a really nuanced issue here despite the soundbites and headlines: it is just too early for employers to be making final decisions on their workplace strategy.

22 Feb 2021 Let me be blunt - in 2021, it is still the case that trans and gender diverse individuals face a significant level of discrimination and marginalisation in both society and the workplace. If we spoke about Black people, disabled people, or a person of faith in the way that trans people are portrayed in the media then there would be public outcry.
For some reason it is still socially acceptable to hold and propagate anti-trans views, not just in private, but also in mainstream media and online. News and TV channels host debates on trans people’s right to exist and go about their day to day lives with dignity and respect.
