Concierto: Giovanni Guidi en Donostia-San Sebastián

Cuarenta años después de la publicación del disco The Third World, que es considerado uno de los primeros ejemplos de la unión entre el Jazz y músicas del mundo, Giovanni Guidi homenajea a su creador, el legendario saxofonista argentino, fallecido hace cinco años, Leandro Gato Barbieri. Nacido en 1985 en Foligno, Italia, Guidi comenzó su andadura internacional acompañando al trompetista Enrico Rava, que invitó al pianista, de tan solo 17 años, a formar parte de su grupo tras quedar impresionado por su intensidad al piano en los cursos de verano de Siena. Guidi es hoy uno de los pianistas más creativos de Europa, compone su propio material y también adapta, con su grupo, composiciones ajenas.

Alessandro Meroli begins, with a track called Nightfall. Notturni is a concept album, one that needs to be played sequentially in order to achieve its full intended effect. Notturni are, of course, nocturnes – musical pieces that evoke the night, so naturally Meroli cites Chopin as an influence, although in truth it’s rock and jazz that come through most strongly. The first track, in which the birds are roosting, represents dusk, the last track, dawn. And in between are all the eerie, sepulchral but beautiful stages of the evening and the night.
