Promising strawberry season in North Carolina

Promising strawberry season in North Carolina In North Carolina, the strawberry season has begun. Growers Bernie and James Kenan have been farming together at their farm in Greensboro for over a decade. James’ family has owned the farm since 1951. According to Kenan, the strawberry crop looks great this year and other farmers he spoke to across North Carolina also expect an abundant crop that could last until August. Kenan explained they are very picky about what strawberries they pick for customers and said if the strawberry is pale red it won’t have any flavor, so they wait to pick them until the entire strawberry is a dark red color. Strawberries are very expensive to harvest because it costs about $15,000 per acre to harvest and they work on the crop for several months.

Court says to drop murder charge against NC man due to double jeopardy

The dead man was stabbed in the head during a prison brawl. He had been in prison for the murder in 2008 of a high school athlete in Duplin County. A jury deadlocked on whether the accused stabber is guilty. Police investigators in 2016 failed to collect a bag of bloody clothes after a fatal stabbing at a North Carolina prison, and that triggered a chain of events that likely will lead to the dismissal of charges   and freedom   for the prisoner who was charged with murdering his fellow inmate.  That’s the upshot of a ruling issued this month by the N.C. Court of Appeals regarding the murder case against Marques Darnell Grays of Greensboro. Grays is accused of killing Joleski Kwame Floyd of Duplin County.
