The Wadena Fire Department recently put a new truck into service.
During the week of March 8-15, firefighters spent several hours training on the truck and moving equipment and getting the truck ready for service including adding graphics.
Even with high prices, the supply remains low for those looking for a home. 7:56 am, Apr. 23, 2021 ×
The City of Wadena held their annual Board of Review meeting Thursday, April 22.
While acting on recommendations from the Wadena County Assessor s Office took about 5 minutes, conversations on the speed of home sales and increasing property values brought the most conversation in the short public meeting.
The assessor’s office heard of a recent sale of 6 acres of forested land on the Crow Wing River going for $130,000, with no developments. That was just a small look into how purchases are changing in this rural area.

The north side of Drastic Measures should be taking on a new look this summer as plans are in place to add a handicap accessible entry and outdoor seating area.

The Wadena City Council approved a request for sidewalk encroachment on Aldrich Ave. for Drastic Measures Brewing. The encroachment allows for an outdoor seating area and the improved access to the north entry door makes it ADA and fire code compliant.
Planning and zoning director Dean Uselman said the encroachment still allows plenty of space for walking on the sidewalk, 6-7 feet. Uselman said the current door swings in, which is a fire code violation. The change adds a ramp and change of door swing. Tables outside would sit from the door access east to the windows towards the front of the building. They could be folded up when not in use.

Over three years ago, fourth-grader Lily Parker approached the Wadena City Council with a request to keep chickens in the city limits.
At the time, she found it was a no-no.
But Lily planted a seed that day that has finally bloomed into something she believes will be a positive for the town. A recent ordinance change allows her and most other residents to now have up to six hen chickens in the city.
