A silver medal pole vault performance from Lauren Martinez and a fourth-place effort in the 10,000m by Katie Izzo highlighted the day as the Arkansas women started competition in the NCAA Championships at Hayward Field on Thursday.

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – No. 3 Arkansas produced five qualifiers to the NCAA Championship meet from three events contested at the NCAA West Preliminary round on Thursday. In addition, the Razorbacks advanced 14 entries among six events that have quarterfinal races on Saturday.
Three Razorbacks – Lauren Martinez, Mackenzie Hayward and Bailee McCorkle – advanced to Eugene in the pole vault, but current collegiate leader Nastassja Campbell was not among that trio.
A wind-aided leap of 21-4 (6.5) had G’Auna Edwards advancing in the long jump as she placed eighth overall. She also had a wind-legal mark of 20-9 ¾ (6.34).
In the final race of the evening, Katie Izzo finished third in the 10,000m, which included a field of 48, with a time of 33:38.64. Just missing qualifying for the 12-person NCAA final was Devin Clark, who placed 13
The Razorbacks make a return trip to E.B. Cushing Stadium where they recently claimed the SEC Championship to complete a conference triple crown for the 2020-21 season.
Arkansas was the lone Division I school to complete a men’s and women’s conference triple crown this season. Only two other schools achieved the feat this past year in Division I, the Charlotte men in Conference USA as well as the Arkansas State women in the Sun Belt.
This marked the third time the Razorbacks men and women accomplished a conference triple crown in the same season. The first occurred in 1999-2000 and then again in 2015-16.
No. 2 Arkansas completed its seventh SEC triple crown by claiming a ninth SEC Outdoor Championship on Saturday by six and half points over No. 1 LSU at E.B. Cushing Stadium with Alabama 11 points behind in third place.
