Although the eastern seaboard is experiencing a cold snap the scoring was hot in the Central Queensland mining town as the Onsite Rental Group Mining Towns Series entered its second event. Queenslander William Bruyeres delivered the shot of the opening round when he holed a 3-wood from 230 metres for albatross at the 444-metre par-5 sixth hole but it was Mackenzie and Grierson who shared the best round of the day, posting 7-under 66 to take a one-stroke lead into the second round.

Chasing down the morning field benchmark of 2-under 70 set by Josh Clarke, James Grierson, John Lyras and Jay MacKenzie, Dive made his intentions clear from the start by recording three birdies in his first four holes. Battling against increasing north easterly afternoon winds Dive added a further three consecutive birdies to his scorecard on holes 9, 10 and 11 to finish two shots clear of Andrew Dodt and Jason Perkin. “It’s been a long time since I’ve played here and I’d forgotten what a great course Belmont is,” said Dive.

Quayle claims North Coast Open in a canter | PGA of Australia

The Queenslander carded a 3-under-par 67 to go with his open round course record 63 at Coffs Harbour Golf Club for a two-round total of 10-under. Victorian Deyen Lawson finished in outright second place at 6-under, while Marcus Fraser and Matthew Millar shared third place a further shot back at 5-under. After starting the final round with a share of the lead alongside Lawson, the tournament soon became an open affair when Quayle made a double on the third to gift Lawson an early lead.
