Pre-poll alliances for the upcoming Assam Assembly elections have been announced and almost sealed. Sharing of the seats among the alliance partners has remained the most challenging part for both ruling and opposition combinations. The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will be having pre-poll alliance with its coalition partner – Asom Gana Parishad (AGP), its coalition partners in the Bodoland Territorial Region- United Peoples Party, Liberal (UPPL) and Gana Surakha Party (GSP). As the BJP has dumped another coalition partner Bodoland People s Front (BPF) and is also the kingmaker in the UPPL-led BTC, the BJP is going to call the shots as far as 12 seats from Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) are concerned. The BJP may find the seat-sharing talks with the AGP tougher than expected.
