The vote comes despite an October community survey that found 56% opposition to changing the school names. “After deep and careful consideration of everything I’ve heard and read, I conclude that renaming both schools is in the best interest of our students and a necessary part of our equity work,” Greg Anderson, chair of the Falls Church School Board, said Tuesday. The name change is a school board initiative that began in the summer at the height of social unrest and included a survey of the Falls Church community taken in October. The survey revealed that 56% of the community overall asked that the names stay on the schools, including 61% of the parents of Thomas Jefferson Elementary students and 57% of George Mason High parents. ....
SunStar + January 31, 2021 A MANHUNT is on for a 51-year-old farmer who allegedly stabbed his wife and injured three other persons in San Jorge, Samar. Police identified the suspect as Liberato Cabubas, a resident of Barangay Mo-boob, San Jorge. The fatality was known as 40-year-old barangay health worker Jennifer Santiago, the suspect s wife. Wounded were Ricky Labong, 46, farmer; Lolito Tamor, teacher; and Jose Tayam Jr., teacher. Initial investigation disclosed that the suspect under the influence of liquor approached the victims on Friday afternoon, January 29, 2021, and without any apparent reason, stabbed his wife, Rosales, hitting her breast. The suspect then stabbed the other victims, whom he came across while fleeing. ....
