Recording Academy to Hire In-House General Counsel

After years of scrutiny for spending millions of dollars on outside legal counsel, the Recording Academy has begun a search for an in-house general counsel,  Billboard has learned. Recording Academy president/CEO  Harvey Mason Jr. confirmed the search in an interview with Billboard on Monday, saying when asked about the role, “Yes. We have started that process.” It has been a source of controversy in recent years that a nonprofit organization the academy s size and stature didn’t have an in-house general counsel and instead paid high yearly fees to outside law firms. One Richardson City Council race heading to runoff, Place 4 council incumbent defeated Five city council races were uncontested. The city of Richardson is pictured in this file photo.(Video screenshot by City of Richardson) Richardson City Council candidates Arefin Shamsul and Marilyn Frederick are headed to a June 5 runoff election. Shamsul received 40.5% of the votes for the Place 6 race and Frederick had 30%. Candidates must earn at least 50% of votes to avoid going to a runoff. The May 1 election also saw Joe Corcoran defeat incumbent Kyle Kepner for the Place 4 council seat. Corcoran received 53.4% of the votes and Kepner, who was seeking a second term, secured 46.6%.

431 Sports Arena sponsoring 36th Christmas Spectacular

The legendary 431 Sports Arena in Boaz is the home of professional wresting in Marshall County and on Sand Mountain. On Saturday night, owner Mickey “The Hammer” Henry is sponsoring his 36th annual Christmas Spectacular. He is providing a gift to all children ages 11-and-under, and Santa Claus is scheduled to stop by and visit with the children. An important highlight of the night to Henry is the arena’s bicycle giveaway. The wrestling card features an American Championship Wrestling ladies world title match between Mississippi Queen and Jennifer Justice. Among the other matches on the card is a 30-man battle royal.
