MIDLAND, Texas The Junior League of Midland is changing up their annual fundraiser event.
While they ve hosted Shotguns and Stilletos for the past couple of decades, they are switching to a virtual event called Farm to Tableaux .
This event will offer virtual auction items from local businesses like Ally Outdoors, food delivery from local vendors like Exquisite Catering and paintings from local artists. Over the past year obviously all non-profits and our programs have been stretched in ways we didn t really know we could, and so last year our fundraiser was cancelled totally, Farm to Tableaux chairman Jennifer Steadman said. A special report from Connecticut advocacy and research organizations backs up what experts have said since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic: It disproportionately affects women and people of color.
The Connecticut Collective for Women & Girls and the Connecticut Data Collaborative, with the help of related organizations, released a special report this week titled “Essential Equity: Women, COVID-19 and Rebuilding CT.” It analyzes data regarding economic security, child care, mental health, hunger, housing and safety.
Connecticut Data Collaborative Executive Director Michelle Riordan-Nold, during a news conference Thursday morning, said the intended audience for the report is state leaders. “It provides important and timely insights on the impact of the ongoing crisis and gives policymakers and decision-makers a comprehensive view on the situation as we prepare for the months ahead,” she said. “Our focus was to look at real-time, publicly available data that was
Candice Dormon was running a successful childcare business from her home in New Haven at this time last year, focusing on nature play and outdoor activities. Weeks after the pandemic hit, she closed her doors forever, fearing the health risk of COVID-19 to her son with asthma.
“Women across the state have had to make impossible decisions,” Dormon said. “The job you need to take care of your family is the thing that can harm your family.”
