ITHACA, N.Y. (WHCU) – Local school districts could be faced with tough decisions come spring, if New York cuts education funding.
Dr. Jeff Matteson with TST BOCES says the possibility of a 20% cut in state aid is a real possibility. He says the Governor’s Office has withheld money, however its not yet known if the move is permanent.
“And he seems inclined to wait out to see what happens at the federal level. Probably a wise decision. Why inflict the pain when it might all get restored anyway and make us make some pretty harsh decisions when it may be unnecessary. But it is real what’s hanging over our head. It is difficult for superintendent’s and boards to make financial decisions about their school districts with unknown figures,” said Superintendent Dr. Jeff Matteson, TST BOCES.
