Aquinnah official hit with ethics violation
Commonwealth alleges select board member Gary Haley approved his own work for the town.

The state’s ethics commission has found reasonable cause Aquinnah select board member Gary Haley violated state ethics law by choosing himself “to perform electrical infrastructure work for Aquinnah,” overcharging the town, and approving payment to himself, according to a press release.
Haley was found to have privately performed electrical conduit work for the town, and “overbilling the town by more than $4,000 for the work,” according to the release.

Aquinnah plans to invite tribe to the table
Selectmen agree to send a letter to reopen talks.
The Aquinnah board of selectmen will invite Cheryl Andews-Maltais and the Wampanoag Tribe of Gay Head (Aquinnah) back to the table to talk about their casino project. -Gabrielle Mannino
The Aquinnah board of selectmen will reach out to the Wampanoag Tribe of Gay Head (Aquinnah) through a letter inviting them back to the table to talk about the tribe’s gambling facility.
“Invite them back to the table so we can talk and make it clear that this board of selectmen was never against the casino,” Newman said. “We were just trying to work with them so we can cooperate with whatever is going on, because whatever they have there is certainly going to impact the town one way or the other, and we need to work together on this. And it’s difficult.”

While not every one of the 16 song choices was a home run, the evening gave some performers who don’t always get leads or solos a chance to spread their wings.
It was a family affair with Sarah Lawrence, Cal Metts and their adorable daughter Gigi singing two songs from “The Secret Garden.” Gigi gave a charming performance with the Mary Lennox solo, “The Girl I Mean to Be.” Lawrence and Metts sang the heart-breaking “How Could I Ever Know,” wonderfully suited to their operatic voices in this powerful duet.
