LOUISVILLE, Ky. Lights bounced off black and navy balloons as they floated into the darkness early Tuesday morning, one year to the minute after David YaYa McAtee was shot and killed by law enforcement outside his West End restaurant.
It was a somber sight for the more than 50 people who d come to remember the barbecue owner, known for his kindness and generosity.
But after a year of tragedy, it also offered a moment of healing. We said our chants and everybody was in unison, said Chaunda Lee, a protester who organized the balloon release. Everybody was unified last night for David McAtee.
Law enforcement personnel who fatally shot a Black man in Louisville last summer will not face charges, Jefferson Commonwealth Attorney Tom Wine announced Tuesday.

A judge has permanently dropped the
assault and
attempted murder of a police officer charges against Breonna Taylor’s boyfriend who opened fire on officers after they executed a search warrant:
THE HILL – A judge on Monday ruled that charges against Breonna Taylor’s boyfriend, Kenneth Walker, for shooting a Louisville, Ky., police officer would be permanently dropped.
Jefferson Circuit Judge Olu Stevens declared that the charges against Walker would be dismissed with prejudice preventing him from being charged with the March 13 incident that resulted in his girlfriend’s death, the Louisville Courier-Journal reported.
Walker had fired a single shot at police, striking Sgt. Jonathan Mattingly in the leg, as three plainclothes officers executed a search warrant in Taylor’s apartment. He was charged with assault and attempted murder of a police officer.
